Trash Talk

Trash Talk – Stone Dead Hockey Pool, 2021-2022

Bob

Draft completed! All players are listed. go ahead and make trades before the season starts.

Bill – Greg is putting together a blockbuster to trade you Gaudreau, Tkachuk, and Mangiapane.

dutchovens

Mines, mittelstadt, keller for puljujarvi, nelson?

Bill Mines

I have two Chicago defencemen, which is great but probably not fair that I hoard them. Willing to look at offers for them.

Bill Mines

Phil, if I throw in Wilson and you throw in Brown, does it still work for you?

dutchovens

lets do it write it up Bob AKA ” SLUG ”

dutchovens

check out my profile picture the new ” andre ” the Giant

GregGayton

Kuznetsov on track for a 246 point year. Make your offers now on this fine hockey player. Step right up…

Bill Mines

Mark, what do you want for Trochek and Hischier?

Bob

I’ve been busy. Is that a real trade Bill?

GregGayton

I’ve heard rumours that we have a blog. How do you get to that?

Bob

you get to the blog the same way you have for the last seven years.

Click on the photo of us in the purple t-shirts up by the title and you go straight to the blog

It is at wordpress.com title brotherspool. Google will find it.

speaking of which, the first post is now up. It explains the draft and the blog and the pool name.

https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/

Mr. Bill – I’m feeling generous this morning, so I’m willing to offer Gaudreau, M. Tkachuk, and Mangiapane for: Zibanejad; Carter Verhaeghe; & Mikael Granlund. Granlund is washed up, so it’s like a 2 for 3 trade, really. And I couldn’t get the key to the city, but I do have the key to Whitelaw…

dutchovens

Mines is this a real trade?!!?

Bob

Yeah Bill confirm or decline that trade.

MarkBarrett

Back from Victoria – what did I miss?

MarkBarrett

Back from Victoria – what did I miss? Bill – let me look at that trade and get back to you

MarkBarrett

Bill – how about McAvoy & Reinhart?

GregGayton

Who’s that guy in first place? Looks familiar, almost like he’d been there before…

MarkBarrett

Watch out for Bill…

dutchovens

Yeah watch out Bill🤪

Bob

So no trade between Ro and Bill.

Ro, why don’t you write up the trade again and send to bill. He’s probably been without (sans) internet after the move.

So after studying my team, these are the players I’m willing to part with right now: Carlson, Strome, Burakovsky, Hintz, DeAngelo, and Stuetzle.

Mark, give a deal with Brayden Point in it.

Pat I am interested in Tavares.

Methot: Pavelski.

and Kreider. Offers?

MarkBarrett

Points on track for a 60 point year – how can I give up on that !!

GregGayton

Bob – make me an offer involving Roope Hintz, and Carlson.

PhilMethot

Bob-yes on Pavelski but part of blockbuster multi- player swap. Details to come.

PhilMethot

Bob, you would have to be an idjit to pass up on this: the highly coveted and always reliable Pavelski, the red hot Svechnikov and you pick em either Fox or J.T. Miller for Petry and Caulfield. Throw in McDavid just to make it interesting.

Bob

I wont be throwing in McDavid so that makes it a three-for-two trade, which isn’t allowed. I will study the stats and try to counter with a 2 for 2 or 3 for 3.

Do you have good svechnikov? I guess so because i doubt if bad svechnikov made the cut.

Paul, burakovsky got injured last night i will wait for the injury report before unloading him on you. I mean bestowing.

PhilMethot

Bob, you really should take a closer look. I’m gambling that one great player can out score three good players (the two Montreal guys aren’t a factor). By my estimate McDavid would have to post Gretzky-like numbers for me to come out ahead. C’mon, don’t be a sucky baby.

Bob

I’ll take a closer look tomorrow. Busy!

PhilMethot

Ro, you’re in love with Oilers, cute and tries ever so hard Yamamoto for big ugly and pretty stupid E. Kane.

dutchovens

i am a oiler fan who wears his allegiance on his sleeve unlike some oiler haters who choose to hate only. Cowards I say and some would say racist… i would trade but I cant see e. kane on my team… mittelstadt for yamamoto?

PhilMethot

Yeah sorry, Pat has Kane, I often get you two confused. Thanks for offering up one of your long term injuries for Yamo. What do think of adding the underperforming Wheeler into the mix? What would it take?

First Waiver Draft goes this Sunday, November 21. Article here: https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2021/11/16/waiver-chaos/

Paul Casey

Bill what about my text? Get Ekholm or Gurianov for Puljujarvi and rid your team of the Oiler stench. I am sure both of them are on the verge of a breakout.

Bob

Methot: Carlson and Caulfield for Malkin and Petterson. You can keep Caufield and still be able to drop Klingberg and Yamamamamoto in the waiver.

Carlson better than Petterson, malkin dead. Win win win!

Paul – Radulov for Kessell?

ro: Nugent-Hopkins for Connor.

PhilMethot

Bob, you would be 16 points up if you had traded McDavid. I accept your Carlson/Caufield for Petterson and the fragile Malkin trade. Predict once Malkin returns he gets hurt again and retires.

That’s the chance I’m taking with Malkin. OK.

Trade will have to go into effect after the waiver. Ok since it doesn’t include any picks or drops.

OK, the standings and rosters are now are updated after the waiver draft and the trade. Feast your eyes!

Blg post here: https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2021/11/25/waiverpocalypse/ Or, click on the little photo of us above the standings where we all have purple t-shirts on the celebrate one of my many pool wins. That takes you to the blog

Wow, never been so many teams scrunched at the top! And Moose out of basement! It’s a Christmas miracle!!

dutchovens

“ God bless us, every one ! “ 🎄

Bob

Trade!!!: Bill trades Jesse Puljujarvi and Jason Robertson to Ro for Clayton Keller and Tyler Toffoli. Ro gains 2 points, Bill down 2 points. Ro in first place! Blog post with expert commentary, pitiless analysis here: https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2021/12/02/trade-2-in-the-books/

dutchovens

got to love those oilers and there local drama😂

GregGayton

Waiver draft next weekend. Commissioner’s office should be sending out official notice soon.

Bob

Waiver Draft complete! Check out the stunning results, or at least find out if you even participated!

https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2022/02/16/the-final-waiver-draft/

PhilMethot

Hi Bob. I sent in my list on Sunday to your email xoxox. Not much we can do about the picks now but I wanted to drop J. Toews and take a chance on keeping Yamamoto.

Bob

Oops! Kind of weird that you sent it to an address I haven’t used for two years, and not the one I used to send you the information! But I see it now, and I’ll see what I can do. I can at least change your drops.

PhilMethot

My bad, oops. Not sure how I did that. I was hoping to get Rodriquez and one of the Leafs but can’t complain about Barb. and Foligno. Thanks

Bob

OK, Yamamoto is restored and Toews is gone. I could re-do the whole draft if someone insists. It’s not too hard but may get confusing for a simple man like myself. Plus I have other things to do, like napping.

Just a reminder that the trading deadline was March 21. No more trades!

Greg has a big lead with only one game to play. Looks like the cup stays in Hoboken!

dutchovens

congrats gregory👍😳🧐🥳

Bob

OK, I tried to find some errors or irregularities, but in the end I have to declare Greg’s Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks the Champions of the Stone Dead Hockey Pool, 2021-2022!! The Aards finished 42 points ahead of Pat’s Edmonton Albinos.

Trash Talk – A Night At The Opera Hockey Pool, 2021

Trades??

Bill Mines

You might as well face it, Bob, Paul has an insurmountable lead and will never be caught. All of this trade nonsense is meaningless.

dutchovens

Let’s do a trade bob?

dutchovens

Bill who do you want for scheiffle

Bill Mine

I think I will hold pat (not Pat) for awhile, Phi

Bob

The Kentville Amenaya have changed their team name to Kentville Moose. Phil picked up the word “Amenaya” in Spain and used it as a greeting with the locals, but it turns out to be absurdly racist.

Ro – Marchessault?

Greg is winning each of the first five rounds, but has zero points from his bottom 11 rounds! My theory is he was drinking heavily at the draft and it kicked in halfway through.

Moose have 8 players over 1.5 PPG and 7 more at 1 PPG. Totally unsustainable. i only h ave three over 1 PPG and 5 more at 1. I can sustain that and will win.

dutchovens

For Larkin?

PhilMethot

A list of things that bother me (hockey related of course). National anthems before games. Stop it, senseless jingoism and a waste of time. Not interesting since the seventies with Roget Doucette and Kate Smith. Bob agrees with me on this point do I must be right (re: Bobal infallibility )

PhilMethot

Furthermore quit using saucer pass, stretch pass and half boards, these things do not exist. Stop telling me the goalie had no chance, if he is in the crease or even anywhere near it he had a chance, that’s where great saves come from. Hack commentators witnessing a goalie give up a big rebound at the beginning of the game and then droning on for the rest of the game about it every time he doesn’t smother the puck.

PhilMethot

And quit chewing on your mouth guard guys and stop going back to the bench after every goal to touch gloves, your not in peewee hockey anymore. Christ, Orr would pot one and barely lift his stick in the air.

PhilMethot4 months ago

You’re

PhilMethot

Next week: Why I hate squirrels.

Bob

Old Man yells at cloud.

Look at Walking Birds charge up the Leaderboard!

Bill Mines

Paul, you should trade Gaudreau and Laine. They’re holding your team back. And I agree with Phil about the anthems, so I think that counteracts Bob agreeing with him. So there’s that.

Bob

I updated the blog with the new Name and slogan and key dates and even a new photo of some of us! To go to the blog at any time, just click on the photo of Jeff with the trophy above.

dutchovens

Hello Bobslug, marchessault for Larkin… Look forward to grumpy squirrel nattering🥸

Bob, how do you post pictures on our Blog?

Bob

No to Larkin deal, I’m trying to figure out a 2 for 2 as I am interested in Marchesault.

I can post pictures because I’m the only one with access to the dashboard and the nuclear codes. You want me to post the ones you’ve sent? I’ve just been really busy so far and haven’t done much.

dutchovens

Yup post Jeffrey pictures when you get a chance.

Bob

New post published

Bob

Next time

dutchovens

Stone and Pacioretty wow!!!

Bob

Trade: Mark and Bill made a trade, but this Trash Talk is too small to contain it. Watch for update tonight (I hope).

Bob

Also, prepare for Zoom next Saturday!

Also, Happy Birthdays to Phil M., Paul, and Greg and probably others this week.

MarkBarrett

🍺 Happy Birthdays as well

Bob

Trade details on blog. Click the photo of Jeff with trophy above, or see this. https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2021/03/16/trading-places/

I haven’t made the roster changes yet. Got to go to work now.

Big trading Zoom chat coming up!!

MarkBarrett

🍺 Happy Birthdays as well

dutchovens

Cheers to birthday boys🍷

Bob

The trade is posted. Mark gained 15 points and leapfrogged the Komets!

Bill, looking at your new roster, I am interested in LaFrenierre and Garland. Plus the holdover Hughes.Start offers.

I am not dropping Fiala in the waiver. Of the remaining players who might fall into the bottom three, I am also keeping Larkin and Kessel. So one of Burns, Krejci, Bailey, nelson, or Lebanc will fall into the bottom three and be dropped. So if you want one of those to keep, trade for them and give me a guy to drop as a trade sweetener.

If you follow.

I got my vaccine today. Anyone else yet?

dutchovens

Monday vaccine today

dutchovens

Vaccine Monday.

dutchovens

Bob, Burns or LeBlanc’s for Pearson? Pick a drop from my bottom 3…

dutchovens

Bob, Sub palmiero for Pearson ( injured )

Bob

I have really bad flu-like side effects. Very sick last night, a little better today.

Ro, you have to get shot and booster even though you already had covid?

I will study trade offers when I feel up to it. Must sleep

Bill Mines

Wtf? I have been checking this message board for weeks and getting “no messages” messages (if you get my drift, wink, wink), and now there’s messages up the yingyang! Happy birthday to the old farts! I get my first shot Sunday. Waiting to hear from Mark, Phil, Paul and Kyle regarding Zoom meeting. Saturday (tomorrow) is out for me. Mark, that’s a pretty sexy team you got there! Interested in any trades?

MarkBarrett

Sorry to hear about Bob and the covid shot reaction. Its funny, I keep thinking I

MarkBarrett

I’m looking at the wrong team on the site. Bill can you confirm these messages are getting sent – we changed to a google based webmail and I’m still getting used to it. Bill, who do you like on my new team that’s worth a trade?

Bob

I think next Saturday the 27th is better for a zoom.

Mark, finish your thought? “I keep thinking I …”

Bob

Greg also wasn’t seeing any trash talk. Not sure what’s going on. Does anyone else use the Officepools phone app? You can do trash talk on there, as I’m doing right now.

PhilMethot

No shots yet. Roll out seems quite slow here likely penalizing us for being sensible considerate people following altruistic protocols and keeping cases low unlike some yahoos in certain parts of the country.

MarkBarrett

Bill – how about a trade for Barkov?

Bob

Big Zoom trades posted. Methot trades Lee (American one, not the Chinese one) (who is out for the season) to Bill for Suzuki, plus Bill gets Methot’s third-round waiver pick. A win-win.

Bob and Bill made four one-for-one trades that add up to a 4-for-4: Bob trades Giroux and Voracek, Kopi tar, and Pavelski for Rantanen, Garland, Kubalik, and Guentzel. Bob +7 pts, Bill -2 pts.

Ten points back of Methot! Sweating yet? Better make a panic trade.

PhilMethot

I never panic and I never apologize. I’m sorry that’s just the way I am.

Bob

First place! And Malkin about to return! Unstoppable now. Unless I screw up the waiver draft.

GregGayton

Yeah, I’m on the message board for the first time this year, and I didn’t change anything…go figger.

Bob

Aardvarks tied for first, Kentville drops to third place!

PhilMethot

Enjoy it while you are able guys. I think they have upped the canned fan noise to a new and stupid level.

Bob

That fan noise sounds so fake! But one thing is certain: No matter what happens, Moose are third.

Waiver Draft Tomorrow, April 18. Zoom meeting at 6 pm. Bill will email you.

Trade update and waiver preview post here: https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2021/04/17/trade-centre-update-and-waiver-draft-trepidation/

Or click on photo of Jeff with trophy above to go to blog.

Waiver tonight, April 18. Check your email.

PhilMethot

Bob, when is the waiver draft? And how may picks do we get? And can I make a trade now?

Bob

You act like I don’t have to hold your hands to get these things done.

Someone always forgets

dutchovens

Bob slug when does waiver draft get updated🧐🧐

Bob

Waiver Draft Gets Updated! Check it over, I did it in a hurry!

Standings didn’t change at the top, but bottom guys moved way up, so it’s tighter:

Moose +13, Aards +9, Birds +9

Bears +35, Dutches +26, Uzbeks + 42, Vegans + 24, Albinos +52!, Komets 0.

PhilMethot

Thanks Bob. Best damn hockeypoolmeister in the hockey pool universe! The rest of you ingrates should buy him a whole bunch of pop and chips next time you are together.

dutchovens

Thank you slug👍💕

Bob

What happened? I thought I was 20 behind Methot, now we are both 20 behind Greg? What a stunning turn of events.

PhilMethot

I think Greg is quietly chuckling to himself and rubbing his hands together as we speak.

Bob

II’m out of it now. Only 20 GP left. You have 36 in theory, but all of a sudden have injury trouble.

Of course McDavid is the whole difference. Pretty good second overall pick!

Panarin’s absences cost me about 19 points.

Looks like the Aards have wrapped up the title! But I get the coveted first pick next season, and the right to draft Draisaitl.

Paul Casey

Who wants McDavid anyway? Leave him for Phil. It only cost me 20 some points to not draft him first. Surely you can make that up with a much stronger roster next year.

PhilMethot

Geez thanks Paul looks like I’ll hang on to 3rd (barely). Greg made up 40 pts. in 2 weeks. I blame that Chinese rocket. Anyone having a go at the Officepools play off bracket?

MarkBarrett

Way to go Greg – now you only need to visit Camrose to collect your trophy and maybe a round of golf. Hugs to all. Mark🏒

GregGayton

Hey, I got trash talk working. Gloat time! I should say a few words about the tragic Kentville Kollapse, as his team lead most of the year. But we’re not allowed to say “choke” on Trash Talk. And Paul, thanks for the great McDavid, your fruit basket is on the way. So, in conclusion, (Nelson Mundt voice) HA-HA. 😄

dutchovens

probably should look at status of number one pick. Should be going to last place. thats the way

most drafts work ( parity ). something about collusion amongst winning owners. gee wonder why…

MarkBarrett

Are my comments being seen on Trash Talk? someone please reply

PhilMethot

Your transmissions are being received. Over.

PhilMethot

So much for hanging on to third. At least Bob didn’t win, he’s insufferable when he does. Also, I think Phil Ro has a point, maybe we should put draft pick order on the agenda for the annual ownership meeting in Palm Springs.

Bob

If first pick goes to last place all you cheaters will tank to get it. By giving it to the second-place finisher (and second pick to third, etc.) it makes everyone want to finish as high as possible to get better draft position the next year. The system is perfect! We don’t carry-over any players from year to year but start fresh every year, so not sure what you mean by parity. Everyone starts out equal. If you want your team to get a higher draft position two years from now, then put a little effort into the fall draft and make some trades during the year to get better. (Of course there is a lot of luck involved.)

Trash Talk – My Best Friend’s Girl’s Hockey Pool, 2019-2020

Istanbul Walking Birds October 11

TRADE ALERT!! Bob’s Walking Birds trade Johnny “Hockey” Gaudreau to Bill’s Minsk Uzbeks for Nathan “Also Hockey” MacKinnon! Blockbuster! Bill gains one point and Bob loses one. They are still in last and second last place. But at least they’re in there trying! And they earned another waiver pick.

Istanbul Walking Birds October 19

When you click on the picture of the trophy at the top next to “My Best Friend’s Girl’s Hockey Pool” it takes you directly to the blog.

Istanbul Walking Birds October 19

Blog cleaned up and links all live. Posts to follow.

Vegreville Vegans October 23

I am basking in the glory at the top two days in a row, but boy is it a tight race. Go Vegans

Cowboy Trail Smoke Eaters October 23

Yes-very impressive!

Cowboy Trail Smoke Eaters October 29

First time I’ve seen the summit in at least 5 years (however briefly). Must be my fancy new avatar.

Minsk Uzbeks November 2

Hey! Tied for 8th, a new high watermark!

Istanbul Walking Birds November 2

Yoicks!! I should check this more often! Last place! If I had been paying attention I would have made a few more trades by now and be winning handily. Offers?? Who you like, who you want to dump? Waiver Draft in 3 weeks!

Minsk Uzbeks November 3

7th! I’m like a freight train rolling up the standings! Can anyone or anything stop me?

Istanbul Walking Birds November 9

Greg, Neiderreitter isn’t working out in Hoboken. Needs a change of scenery. Let’s talk.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 9

Methot you can’t expect to ride Carlson to victory. He is unsustainable. Trade me Seth Jones for Ryan Suter.

 Vegreville Vegans November 4

Bob, How about trading me Barzel for Debrincat?

Istanbul Walking Birds November 9

I’m keeping Barzal. Always say Barzal; never say Barzel. However I would trade you Nicklas Backstrom for Aho.

Vegreville Vegans November 9

Way too old. I think Aho has more upside even though off to a slow start. Make a different offer.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 9

Bill, will you part with the inferior Tkachuk? I will give you absolutely anyone on my roster drafted below Zucker. Except Makar.

Minsk Uzbeks November 10

I am currently in negotiations for the other Tkachuk to my already stellar roster but will look at your offer and probably counter with someone drafted above Zucker. However at the current time I am preoccupied with doing renovations at my daughter’s place and trying to get the Stamps into the Western Final so I will not be able to have a good look at this until later on this week.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 10

Bill I didn’t see the game (is it over?) but I think you did a lousy job at helping the Stamps get into the Western Final and on those renovations. I expect you are despondent and will reconsider my original offer since what really matters in this crazy world?

Minsk Uzbeks November 10

I can barely see to type through my tears tonight. I finished one phase of the renovation just now but have been informed that the next phase starts tomorrow. I hope to head home on Tuesday but I will have to sit around watching cable news networks in my underwear for a few days after that so maybe Thursday or Friday I can look at it?

Istanbul Walking Birds November 11

You sad sack.

Minsk Uzbeks November 11

Just for clarification, you are talking to Methot, right?

Istanbul Walking Birds November 9

Karl I need to take some chances. What do you want for Hughes?

Istanbul Walking Birds November 16

OK then how about Pavelski?

Istanbul Walking Birds November 16

Bill, You want Keller? Have to take the Stepan contract too. Bonus: They play on the same line.

Minsk Uzbeks November 16

Isn’t that the deaf and blind guy? Sure, I’ll take him but he had better be cheap!

Minsk Uzbeks November 16

How about Kadri and Compher?

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks November 17

Bob – I am trying to offload a Flame or two. I tried to deal with Bill but he doesn’t like them. What’s your best offer on the superior Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm. Other owners can chime in here as well. You need to take a chance Bob…

Minsk Uzbeks November 17

Don’t do it Bob! It is a bear market on Flames this year. I know, I am already down over 10pts on a trade for one. But if Greg really, really wants to trade them I suppose I could take them off his hands. No Tkachuk straight up for Pettersson nonsense though!

Cowboy Trail Smoke Eaters November 17

The “AMENAYA” (?!?!?) surging into the lead as the club owner sips margaritas by the pewl somewhere.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 16

ok Mark – Duchene and Backlund for Staal and Ristolainen.

Camrose Solar Bears November 19

Just to make a trade I’ll do Backlund for Ristolainen

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

Hi Mark I missed this one. OK on Backlund for Risto. You have now completed your trade.

Cowboy Trail Smoke Eaters November 22

League Commissioner-please drop the disappointing Gardiner and add next-available guy on “unpicked” list for Sunday’s waiver draft-thanks!-Cellar Dweller

Istanbul Walking Birds November 22

Been busy and missed all this stuff. Reminder that waiver is Sunday. I will send out information tonight or saturday and will make trades and win the pool again.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 10

Backstrom is 31. Prime of the ol’ career! I will cogitate on a counter-offer and get back to your people.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 16

Barzal for Aho is the counter-offer. You may sweeten it now.

Vegreville Vegans November 22

I will take that deal if still on the table

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

OK, Barzal for Aho done.

Vegreville Vegans November 23

Mr. Commissioner, please drop C. White from Ottawa and select the next available on the undrafted list.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

WAIVER DRAFT TOMORROW! SUNDAY NOVEMBER 24! Get your drops and lists or instructions in. See the new blog post for all the deets peeps!

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2019/11/23/2019-2020-hockey-pool-lets-go/

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

Make a trade if you haven’t yet, and get a bonus waiver pick that you can use tomorrow or at the second waiver draft.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

Bill, Paul, Bob already have made trades.

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

That reminds me – Trade Alert: Paul’s Vegans trade Sebastian Aho (17 points) to Bob’s Walking Birds for Mathew Barzal (20 points).

Istanbul Walking Birds November 23

TRADE ALERT: Mark’s Camrose Solar Bears trade Mikael Backlund to Bob’s Istanbul Walking Birds for Risto Ruotsalainen. Or someone.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Bill – I will trade you Calgary Backlund for non-Calgary Trochek. Ok, then, how about Compher?

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Greg, make me a proposal for Tkachuk and/or Lindholm, and throw-in will be Neiderreitter for Brown.

Malega Lake Amenaya November

Mark, trade me J. Anderson for Kotkaniemi. #keepbobinlastplace

Istanbul Walking Birds November

That hashtag will never trend. I’m just too popular. And humble.

Camrose Solar Bears November

Phil – I agree to the trade even if I can’t pronounce his name – Bob please make the changes –

Malega Lake Amenaya November

Bub, drop Batheson and Patrick. I’m on the road right now so will have to ask you to pick the best available pick unless it is Shattenkirk, skip him he’s due for a season ending injury. Thanks you wonderful human being.

Malega Lake Amenaya November

Mark, thanks for the last minute meaningless trade to keep Bob irrelevant. #neverabober

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Anderson for Kotkianiemi?

Koln Komets November

Can I drop Joe Thornton for Derick Brassard if he’s not taken?

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Yes, you’ll be picking third and Brassard is tenth on the picklist. That should work.

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

Congrats to Winnipeg blue bombers 29 years wow

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Never mind that, I need waiver lists!

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

Drop Gustffson take next available highest point guy or girl on list… love ya

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Also nothing from Pat

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Bill, I didn’t get a waiver list from you as far as I can remember. But my memory fails me.

Minsk Uzbeks November

I tried to send a pm. Obviously it didn’t work. Drop Donato. Take Hughes if available. Otherwise take next on the list ECLUSING any Oiler scum

Minsk Uzbeks November

Excluding

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

Go oilers go… 🙂

Minsk Uzbeks November

Yes, and don’t come back!

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Billy – I deleted Facebook app so not getting messages. I assume if Hughes isn’t available you want me to take the HIGHEST rated available player on the pickist (excluding vermin), even if they are higher than Hughes, not the NEXT player AFTER Hughes (excluding scuzzballs). Only a mental would do it the way you said it. So I thought I better check.

Istanbul Walking Birds October

Karl I need to take some chances. What do you want for Hughes?

Istanbul Walking Birds November

OK then how about Pavelski?

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Is there a Karl? I’m terrible with names. The Koln owner.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Kyle

Istanbul Walking Birds November

By the way, Mark, you asked me to drop Kotkieneimi but he isn’t on your team. I might have to kick you out of the pool.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Wanna drop Anderson instead?

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

That mark he is funny what a maroon what niccompoop…

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

Nincompoop

Istanbul Walking Birds November

I suggest you drop Matthews. Going nowhere.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

So I have the waiver picks all done, but I don’t know all the drops. Will try to post results tomorrow.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Highlights: Bill gets Klefbom, Methot gets Shattenkirk, Greg gets Odie Cleghorn (a strange pick; Sprague Cleghorn was available and has way more upside).

Camrose Solar Bears November

W-T-F gents, I made a trade and then dropped him (how tough is that?) Bob, you have my messaging note for the order of waiver pick otherwise next available. Hugs all around

Istanbul Walking Birds November

OK, my mistake. I approved the trade but thought it was the other way around with Kotkianiemi going TO Methot but he came from Methot. So I thought I had already made the changes. Will fix it. However, unless I am greatly mistaken, and I often am, I am still waiting for Roeleveld to give me a player to drop who is actually on his team. He said drop Gustaffson but is Gustaffson-less. I have already done all the waiver pick-ups but am just waiting for Ro’s drop to post them all and have been too busy anyway. Saturday!

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Ro, who are you dropping?

Istanbul Walking Birds November

I had sent a trash talk message to Ro about this 3 days ago but it is not here. What’s going on? Anyway it should all be done on Saturday.

Koln Komets November

Sorry. Work had me swamped. Who were you thinking to trade?

Koln Komets November

Koln still open for trades

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Methot, are you really on the road? Where are you and how long gone are you? You’ll miss my letter. By the time you get back my obsessive fans will have stolen it from your letter box. I am beloved.

Koln Komets November

Koln will trade kappo kakko to the smoke eaters for Anders lee

Istanbul Walking Birds November

How about it, Jeffrey? No? I have a better offer for Kaapo – Tyler Toffoli. Toffoli solid but I have to take chances.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

I better finish the waiver draft before I make trades. Ro, I am arbitrarily dropping Eberle for you but if you want you can change it to either Mittelstadt or Tarasenko. RSVP.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Kyle/Karl: I made an offer for Jack Hughes. I forget who I offered. Let me check how bad his injury is before I make another offer.

Camrose Solar Bears November

Ro – Gustafsson is on my team – Try again MB

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Trade Alert from a couple of days ago: Mark trades Kotkieniemi to Methot for J Anderson. Bottom-feeders.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Or the other way around:)

Istanbul Walking Birds November

If two hockey players have the same name, one of them should have to change it. Like actors do.

Istanbul Walking Birds  November

Mark: There are two Josh Andersons so I gave you the Columbus forward. I assume that’s the one Methot traded you? The other one is a defenseman for Colorado.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Of course I mean I gave METHOT Anderson. Did I get the right one? Man I’m making a lot of mistakes lately. Starting with my drafting.

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

Drop Gustafson for the second time…

Istanbul Walking Birds November

SHOW ME THE GUSTAFFSON! You are the Dutch Ovens, you know! You have no Gustaffsons!

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

I traded nov 23 middelstat for gustafsson just fwd trash talk to mark’s email. Don’t like this trash talk to much. Drop eberle is fine

Istanbul Walking Birds November

The commissioner never got any such trade notice either on Trash Talk or email. If Mark got the offer he didn’t agree to it as far as I know. Right Mark? So I’ll drop Eberle.

St. Albert Dutch Ovens November

Yah Yah

Istanbul Walking Birds November

Waiver Draft Picks/drops are complete. We always say the waiver rewards failure, but Methot, picking last, was by far the biggest winner. Of course, he had two picks, but so did I and I did worse than three of the other owners who had one pick.

Istanbul Walking Birds November

I posted about the waiver draft but forgot some stuff so I updated it. If you read it from the email notification, go to the blog to see the updated post. https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2019/11/30/the-grey-cup-waiver-malega-lake-swells/

Istanbul Walking Birds December 28

TRADE ALERT: Bill’s Minsk Uzbeks trade the useless and injured Ferland to Greg’s Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks for the useless Will Butcher. Part 2: Bill trades Nick Schmaltz (30 points) to Greg for Elias Lindholm (28 points). Greg gains two points, Bill loses two points. Trade requirements satisfied for both teams, and they can use two waiver picks in the Super Bowl Draft.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks January 2 2020

People said that no one could catch Methot this year. But look at those mighty Vegans, fueled by their meat-free diets and only 2 points back!

Istanbul Walking Birds January 3

Methot is in trouble. Several teams will catch him, including the eventual champions, me. And he is away travelling again where there is no internet so he can’t make trades and won’t even know we are mocking him.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks January 21

Is it too late to rename it to Bunch of Dopes and Babies H.P.? Just asking…

Minsk Uzbeks January 21

Although I like the new name suggestion I am wondering if I have missed something…

Istanbul Walking Birds January 22

I have been out of commission with back spasms for a while and I was unable to sit at the computer. I will get at it in the next couple of days to get everyone hyped up for the waiver draft this Sunday.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 22

I thought I had missed something too, but it looks like the ravings of a rapidly deteriorating mind, so we already knew about that.

Minsk Uzbeks January 22

And so it begins…

Minsk Uzbeks January 22

Wait a second…does that mean the rest of us are the Dopes and you and Greg are the Babies?

Malega Lake Amenaya January 22

Everyone is stupid except me and Greg.

 Minsk Uzbek January 22

“Greg and I”

Istanbul Walking Birds January 23

me and Greg” is correct. Basic English, Bill.

Minsk Uzbeks January 23

Ok, I finally get Greg’s new name suggestion. Not that I really need any help, but thanks for helping me look like…like…a general?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 23

I have no idea what that is about

Istanbul Walking Birds January 23

Vegans in the lead!!!

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Why is everyone waiting so long to make their trades? You all knew the rules and the waiver date. Methot and Paul, if you hope to win you better get on it. Greg and Mark have two picks and will crush you.

Malega Lake Amenaya January 24

Greg, Ferland for Anderson to keep Bob from busting balls.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

I’ll have to close that loophole next year. No trading bottom three guys maybe?

Malega Lake Amenaya January 24

Screw you Lefebvre, next you’ll be saying we can’t call any witnesses! The fix is in.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Aren’t you in the third world somewhere? Where you belong?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Bill – Keller and Suet for Dadinov and Werenski?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

I need some seeds too to go with the suet

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Keller and Suter for Dadinov and werenski?

Minsk Uzbeks January 24

Make it Makar instead of Suter and you have yourself a deal

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Hmmm….

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

I will do some calculatin

Malega Lake Amenaya January 24

Anyone interested in making a meaningless trade? How about a meaningful one, say Laine?

Vegreville Vegans January 24

How about Nylander (Toronto) for Laine?

Malega Lake Amenaya January 24

I’m on the island of Fuerteventura, not sure which world that is Bob, but I’m not freezing in the dark that’s for sure. Paul what do you think of Laine for Nylander but throw in your bottom guy Johansen for Subban? Full disclosure, I just got in from a night of drinks and could be talked into a lot of things, I am the highly suggestible type. Not going to that clown college though.

Vegreville Vegans January 24

Can’t do Johannson fro Subban as part of the deal. Race is too close to give up 10’points.

Camrose Solar Bears January 24

Bob – desk top failed and we were away a couple day’s and just catching up on the chatter – please confirm that I have made enough trades to get my next two waiver picks (pick the highest available when its my turn) Thanks and chat you soon.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 25

You obviously didn’t catch up on all the chatter or else you have poor reading comprehension. As I said above, you do indeed have two picks. Do I just drop your two lowest players (Athanasiaiou and Landeskog) or who?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 25

So I just looked at the calendar and realized that the waiver draft scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday, February 2nd, is not tomorrow after all, but NEXT Sunday, eight days from now. This is what happens when you’ve been off work for a month. You lose all track of time and don’t shave or look after basic hygiene. We’ve all noticed that with the retired owners. But still, start doing some trades won’t you?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 25

I did all the printouts of the standings and the picklists in preparation for the draft, thinking it was tomorrow. What a nincowpoop!!

Istanbul Walking Birds January 25

Preparing for the big waiver draft on Sunday! Picklist is final, draft order is final. Bill, Greg and Mark get two picks each. Me and Paul get one. Paul can earn another pick by making a trade. I can’t since I used two picks in the first waiver. Everyone else gets zero waiver picks. Methot has made a trade but used two picks in the first waiver, so he needs to make a trade to get one pick in the second waiver. Jeff, Kyle, Pat, and Ro can earn one or two picks in the waiver by making one or two trades before Sunday. I await the trading frenzy.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 25

Ignore this message, at least the part where I say the draft is tomorrow and the draft order is final and the picklists are done. The waiver is next week, February 2nd.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 25

New article about the waiver draft here:

Istanbul Walking Birds January 25

https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2020/01/25/impending-waiver-looms-ominously/

Vegreville Vegans January 24

Can’t do Johannson fro Subban as part of the deal. Race is too close to give up 10’points

Malega Lake Amenaya January 25

Understood. How bout Laine/Kerfoot for Nylander/Jahansen?

Malega Lake Amenaya January 25

Does Bob need an intervention?

Vegreville Vegans January 25

Okay Nylander/Johanson for Laine/Kerfoot. Done deal.

Vegreville Vegans January 25

Bob, or should I say, Mr. Commissioner, the Vegans trade Nylander and Johnson to Malega Lake for Laine and Kerfoot.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks January 24

Gutsy trade by Casey and Methot. First place hanging in the balance. Anyone want Jack Roslovic before I punt him next weekend?

Malega Lake Amenaya January 24

Subban/Roslovic. How’s retirement suiting you?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

TRADE ALERT: Malega Lake trades Patrik Laine and Alex Kerfoot to Vegreville for the good Nylander and Marcus Johansson. Malega (Phil M) loses two points, Vegreville (Paul) gains two points, increasing their lead to 13 points. Johnsson and Kerfoot are in the bottom three for each team. Paul now gets two picks in the waiver draft and Methot gets one (his max) so they don’t need to complete any more trades.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Hey Methot I plan to drop Backlund and he has 22 points, which would almost make it out of your bottom three. If you trade him to me for Anderson that is a wash for me becouse I’lll just drop Anderson instead of Backlund, but it may help you. Of course it will have to be part of a two-for-two trade involving non-bum players too. Do the math, it really shores up the bottom of your roster since you can still drop Subban and you’ll be rid of Anderson. I would make this offer to Paul but he has a much more solid bottom three than you.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Greg, maybe we can do a trade with Backlund for Ferland, and etc.? You could keep Backlund and drop Roslovic and Haula. I drop Ferlund. We trade two good players in the package. Who you like? Hurry, Methot is making me an offer right now.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Ro you have to make two trades. Pittsburgh fan here, trade me Malkin for Backstrom and McCann for Suter. Sweet!

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Keller and Suter for Dadinov and werenski?

Minsk Uzbeks January 22

Make it Makar instead of Suter and you have yourself a deal

Istanbul Walking Birds January 24

Bill would you part with Quinn Hughes? Or is he untouchable? Maybe in a Makar deal but two-for-two? What the heckle and jeckle, let’s go nuts, and do three-for-three!

Minsk Uzbeks January 24

Not untouchable. I might want in on the Backlund sweepstakes though. Let me think about it, or you can think about it, or something like that.

Vegreville Vegans January 24

Bob, for the waiver draft the Vegans drop Kerfoot and Trouba. Please pick the next two available players on the list.

Cowboy Trail Smoke Eaters January 24

I did request a trade with the Koln Komets two months ago-Lee for Kakko. You can complete it and drop Foligno for next-available guy on unpicked list-thanks!

Istanbul Walking Birds January 27

I thought that was just a trade offer but if you accepted it it’s done.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 27

Trade Alert: Jeff trades Anders Lee to Kyle for Kaapo Kakko. The trade was actually made a while ago and maybe it was closer then, but right now Kyle gains 13 points. Kakko is bottom three.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 27

Jeff and Kyle, you have each earned one waiver pick, but both of you could earn one more by doing another trade.

Malega Lake Amenaya January 26

Bob, I shouldn’t trade with, I usually get fleeced but your logic seems sound on this matter. Anderson/T. Meier for Backlund/Letang? Diddly.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 27

Nope. Bill’s offer is better. I might try to finalize it. Unless you have a better offer.

Istanbul Walking Birds January 27

But if I do that Bill deal I will get Compher, who I will be dropping, so if you want to do a Backlund-type deal we can do it with Compher instead.

Minsk Uzbeks January 26

How about Hughes and Compher for Keller and Backlund?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 27

I would do that deal. You in?

Istanbul Walking Birds January 28

Hughes and Compher for Keller and Backlund. Bill Confirm. Bill?

Minsk Uzbeks January 28

Sorry, don’t have very good access to my email lately. Sure, sounds groovy

Istanbul Walking Birds January 28

BLOCKBUSTER ALERT: Bill trades Quinn Hughes and J.T. Compher to Bob for Keller and Backlund. Bob up one point. So far.

Istanbul Walking Birds February 1 2020

Camrose takes the lead! Check live Updates, Mark is actually winning. Methot plummets to third place. Sandbagging for the waiver no doubt.

Istanbul Walking Birds February 1

The shocking results!! Waiver Draft complete, standings updated, article written: https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2020/02/03/super-bowl-waiver-in-the-books-solar-bears-surge-into-lead/ Yes, I have better things to do!

Malega Lake Amenaya Feb 1

Prediction: I hang in for a few more weeks, my vast injured list reduces to zero, a late season surge and a triumphant 6 point victory (many more over the hapless Turks).

Malega Lake Amenaya Feb 1

Birds.

Istanbul Walking Birds Feb 1

Paul’s Vegans have only missed 8 games all season (total games missed by top-20 players!! That has to be a record by a long long way! Missed games have only cost his team 6 points this year. No way that can continue, right?

Istanbul Walking Birds Feb 1

I’ve missed 73 games, costing me 58 points. My players have played 80 less games than Paul’s.

Istanbul Walking Birds Feb 1

I’m just saying I should be winning.

Malega Lake Amenaya Feb 1

Nylander goes on injured list, Laine scores hat trick. Ouch.

Minsk Uzbeks March 1 2020

Bob, what do you want for Toffoli? And just an update on our earlier trade. If I keep McKinnon and you keep Gaudreau, you would only drop down one spot to 6th place but I would move into 3rd. I’m not saying that you owe me, but I am implying it.

Istanbul Walking Birds March 1

Toffoli is about to be traded to a contender where he might rip it up. He WILL rip it up.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Phil Methot: Staal for old, slow, stupid Krejci. Yes I know Staal is old, slow, and stupid too.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

How about Zack Werenski? No? Why not?

Minsk Uzbeks March

That’s so crazy it just might work! I’m game if you are.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

OK Staal for Werenski. No, Toffoli for werenski!

Istanbul Walking Birds March

TRADE ALERT: Bill’s Uzbeks trade Zack Werenski (34 points) to Bob’s Walking Birds for Tyler Toffoli (34 points) Looks like a close one!

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Greg, you have to trade to stay in the race. Make me and Bill some offers, Everything must go!

Istanbul Walking Birds March

I assume Mark and Paul don’t want to trade and risk losing. BUt if you do, make an offer.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Only 8 days to trading deadline

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Tkachuk (Brady) for Kessel?

Minsk Uzbeks March

Sorry, was that for me again?

Minsk Uzbeks March

It was for me! Kessel is in great shape (compared to me) so sure, I would do that.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

You have to learn who plays for you. Ok Kessel for B Tkachuk. I hate to give up on Kessel but it looks like he is a bum now.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

TRADE ALERT: Bill trades Kessel for Tkachuk. No, Bill GETS Kessel for Brady Tkachuk from Bob.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Kessel 34 points, Tkachuk 33. Bill wins. Plus Tkachuk is in my bottom three. For now.

Malega Lake Amenaya March

I had trouble sleeping with all this racket! I’ll do the Krejci for Staal deal Bob, but it has to be tied to a bottom three deal of Doughty for Zucker plus I want to get rid of a Shark so T. Meier for B. Tkachuk.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

I’m back. It’s the Doughty-Zucker part that doesn’t work for me. Zucker is not a bottom-three player but a top-line player with Crosby.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Shattenkirk instead of Zucker would work, or or else you include w Karlsson instead of Doughty and I leave Zucker in.

Malega Lake Amenaya March

A week ago I was still delusional enough to think there was a chance but with the injury train refusing to stop that’s it for this year so may as well ride it out, thanks anyway.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Throwing in the towel! Just like Wilder’s corner! Me and Bill are going out on our shields.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

You do have a lot of injuries though. And you are delusional.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

Remember, the higher you finish, the higher you pick next year. Except for the winner.

Istanbul Walking Birds March

OK, the Trading Deadline has passed with the usual flurry of last-minute nothing. You are stuck with those bums!

Cowboy Trail Smoke Eaters March

Yes, sorry-tied up with the “usual”. Last place seems secure!!

Minsk Uzbeks March 22 2020

Hey, just wanted to check up on all of you. Drop a line to let us all know how you are making out. We are doing fine up here. Jackie is still working but isn’t sure how long that is going to last. I have been thinking about projects I can start working on but not finish, as is my modus operandi. Have been sharpening lathe and watching zombie movies in preparation for the potential toilet paper seeking hordes that I am assuming are amassing at our southern border. But seriously, let us know how you are doing.

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

We are ok. Mel’s office closed last Monday because one of the dentists had been at that conference in BC where people picked up the virus. Then on Wednesday they ordered all dental offices closed so everyone is laid off and she will be on EI. Canada Post working and busier than ever as parcels increase but very short-staffed due to people having to stay home with their kids. I worked a pair of 10 and 1/2 hour days at the end of the week. I really don’t think we are safe working with the virus in the community. Only a matter of time before workers get it. We should be doing only really important deliveries and not trying to get all mail and parcels out.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

I hear you on that. Are they supplying you with adequate (or even any) PPE?

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

We were given little bottles of Purell. Promised wipes later. And we no longer get signatures.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Damn, I don’t know what to say to that. Stay as safe as you can.

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

Some workers at risk (old) have been staying home. With a doctor’s note they do get paid. I have called my cardiologist to see if, as a sixty-year old with a heart condition, I should stay home. Haven’t heard back yet. He has hundreds of patients in more serious condition though so probably busy with them. You should be really careful as another 60-year-old with a heart condition.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks March 22

Weekdays in Berwyn, weekends in Hythe.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Couldn’t you just work from Hythe? Let someone local answer the phones. Less likelihood of contamination that way, don’t you think? Anyway, was going to ask if you wanted to come down some weekend and watch the 2018 Grey Cup (still have it on pvr) but that will have to wait a bit.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks March 22

So we closed the Berwyn Village Office to foot traffic, effective Monday, so I am working at home plus I come in to mind the phones two days a week. Working on getting as much sleep as I can, because I think that’s your best weapon. BTW, does Mark win the hockey pool by one point? Shades of Bernie Federko…The OHS Act says that employees do not have to work in dangerous conditions, you could look into that maybe Bob.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Working from home in Berwyn or in Hythe?

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

RE: The standings. We can’t declare it final yet until the NHL does. A post on this coming soon!

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

I’m being careful, although I’m still self identifying as a 59 yr old (except at slow pitch where I can count as a female if I am 60). Not sure what to say about your cardiologist. I just found out that we are losing our GP to the UCP cuts, although I think you are following me on Twitter so you might already know that. Hoping that the real estate market doesn’t completely crash so that when this all ends we can sell and get out of this fucking province

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

I did see that on Twitter. I can’t understand why they are STILL fighting the doctors while trying to control the pandemic and doubling the deficit. Pretty clear the medical system here needs more money, not less. However, I think we have a tacit “no politics” rule on Officepools so enough said.

St. Albert Dutch Ovens March 22

Still working 8 to 4:30 doing multiple task shipping, purchasing, sales. WCI needs to stay open to support contracts City of Edmonton, RCMP and NG911 centers. Don’t meet with customers and limit social distancing with staff. Eventually I suspect 50% or higher will get virus in 6 months. Louise department shutdown and she will be redeployed as needed. Stay thirsty and safe my friends.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Fair enough about the politics. Thanks for posting Phil. What department was Louise in? It sounds like all elective surgeries have been shut down. Hope she is keeping safe too

St. Albert Dutch Ovens March 22

She is working in endoscopy and it is still open but emergency cases only ( no scheduled cases ). They ask nurses for last trained position if the department they worked in is closed.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

I’m sure it is quite the upheaval right now in healthcare, but I still have the utmost trust in the the people working there. How are the boys? I know that our kids are my biggest worry right now. It’s tough not having them near at a time like this.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Btw is there any word on Phil and Marilyn? Does anyone know if they are back in Canada?

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

They arrived back on Wednesday. Not sure if made it back to Nova Scotia yet. Landed in Toronto I think. Have to isolate for two weeks. They were in Ireland most recently.

Vegreville Vegans March 22

They are back in Canada. I saw a FB post earlier. They are back at the cabin in Nova Scotia.

St. Albert Dutch Ovens March 22

Mike going to School working on social work degree and at home😂. Nick still working for OEG ( not layed of yet👍 )

St. Albert Dutch Ovens March 22

Laid

Vegreville Vegans March 22

Town of Vegreville closed all facilities to public access on Tuesday. Still going into work, but down three staff who have been self isolating for various reasons. Council doesn’t want us working from home. Go figure.

Vegreville VegansMarch 22

Well it will probably be Mark who wins because I don’t see the NHL starting up again. Disappointing for my team as they worked hard all season long only to lose by 1. Closest race in years.

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

This is the best page for up to date numbers worldwide. USA is going to pass Italy in cases in a day or so, then China in another day. It is going to be really ugly there. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Vegreville Vegans March 22

Dorothy works part time in a pharmacy so she continues to work her shift as pharmacies are essential services. Karl works alone and his job has also been classified as essential. Sidney works in a women’s shelter and is also considered a front line worker. Difficult and trying times for us all.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Thanks for all the replies everyone. It’s good to know so far that everyone is still ok. Looking forward to when this is all over and we can get back to what we do best: making fun of each other.

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Btw if anyone has Hollywood Suite on their television Bueno Vista Social Club is on right now. Channel 428 for anyone on Optic

St. Albert Dutch Ovens March 22

Don’t you have some unfinished projects already…

Minsk Uzbeks March 22

Besides finishing a couple of tables, stripping and finishing 6 chairs and a desk, straightening out my trailer and doing some work on my bike? No, not really…

Istanbul Walking Birds March 22

I have dozens of unstarted projects. Currently bogged down in taxes, estates, wills; life, home, and auto insurance renewals, mortgage renewal, retirement planning. Man I hate all this stuff. All at once too.

Camrose Solar Bears March 24

good morning everyone – have to say it is good to hear everyone is well. Betty & I moved my mom into a old persons facility in Edmonton the beginning of March just ahead of the Covid crackdown. at the same time we pick Liam up and brought him back to Camrose. missing the almost daily visits with grandkids and other than not going out have not had much issue with being isolated. will look to keep in touch.

Minsk Uzbeks March 25

Good to hear from you Mark. Are you not going out at all?

Camrose Solar Bears March 25

Not as much outings as we typically have done. looking forward to a warm spring and many rounds of golf. hope to make the rounds again this summer to see everyone. keep in touch.

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 5

I just have to point out that I am winning again. I was winning after day one, and I am winning after day two. Will lead wire-to-wire again. Winner.

Minsk Uzbeks Oct 3

Trades??

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 5

How about that Petterson? Make me a better offer than the one we discussed. Sweeten it with honey!

Minsk Uzbeks Oct 5

I got Florida guys, I got Columbus guys, I got Winnipeg guys. I got all the best guys! Make me a deal! MIGA!

St. Albert Dutch Ovens Oct 5

you pick um

St. Albert Dutch Ovens Oct 5

boeser for forsberg or make 4 player deal

Minsk Uzbeks Oct 5

Only in your wettest of wet dreams would such a thing happen. But to show you how damned nice I am, I will trade you Ehlers and Hoffman for Boeser and Skinner, thus losing the trade but gaining your undying gratitude.

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 6

Kyle, are you on here yet? Which Ryan do you have? Anyone?

Koln Komets Oct 6

Kyle here. It’s D. Ryan

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 6

OK, I guess rosters are all correct.

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 15

Bill- Petterson? Offers?

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks Oct 18

That mild tremor you just felt was the Aardvarks and Solar Bears completing an earthshattering trade! Aards trade KEVIN SHATTENKIRK to Bears for OLIVER BJORKSTRAND!! Excitement City!!

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 22

OK, the trade is official: Shattenkirk (2 points, Round 20 pick) goes from the Aardvarks to the Solar Bears for Olivier Bjorkstrand (2 points, Round 19 pick). It looks pretty even so far. Aards and Solar Bears each pick up a waiver draft pick, even though these are borderline bottom-3 guys.

Camrose Solar Bears Oct 23

Bob – you have to admit with 5 of my first 8 picks sucking, I needed to shake this up a little

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 24

You need to make a bigger trade than that last one. There’s talk that something is about to happen with Nylander. Maybe take a chance and trade him now?

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 24

Jeff. I know your Assistant GM would like you to add Toews to the roster. Toews-De Brincat combo unstoppable. Let’s discuss.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks Oct 28

Another big day in Excitement City! Aards trade PAUL STASTNEY to Komets for EELI TOLVANEN!! The napkin has been signed. Commissioner Bobby please adjust our rosters accordingly.

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 29

OK, Greg trades Paul Stastny to Kyle for Eeli Tolvanen. Greg got the better name, but gave up on Stastny way too early, as he will be back and ripping up the league in mid-December. Tolvanen is in the minors and there is little chance he plays in the NHL this year. But maybe, so Greg took a chance. Greg has now made two trades and has all three of his waiver picks, despite violating the spirit of the mandatory trade rule both times. Kyle has two waiver picks so far.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks Oct 29

What spirit? According to this nebulous unwritten “mandatory trade rule” you can’t make any waiver picks at the Grey Cup waiver unless you’ve made a trade. And you need two trades to get two waiver picks. At least that’s the way I understand it from rumours I’ve heard on the street. So most of the owners, at this point in time, can’t make any waiver picks. Right??

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 31

I was just poking fun at your two meaningless trades of guys with zero points. The rule is not unwritten. Doesn’t anyone read these things? https://brotherspool.wordpress.com/2018/10/25/brotherpool-2018-2019-season-under-way/ Mark just asked me when the waiver is so I guess not.

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 31

The rule, which Greg invented and then circumvented, is: Everyone has at least one pick in the first waiver which is Grey Cup day, November 25. You can earn another pick if you want by making a trade before then.

Istanbul Walking Birds Oct 31

By making two trade you also get another pick in the second waiver. Just read the article.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks Oct 31

OK. Thanks for the response. I hadn’t read the article.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 2

Haven’t seen anything from Jeff, Methot, or Pat yet. Are any of you there?

St. Albert Dutch Ovens Nov 2

I am here whats up

Vegreville Vegans Nov 2

I am on the system. What a start to the year. First month with 6 injuries, yikes.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 5

Another earth-shaking trade: Bill (Minsk) trades DeBrusk (round 13, 3 points, in Bill’s bottom 3) to Mark (Solar bears) for James Neal (also 13th round, 4 points, not in Mark’s bottom three but now in Bill’s). DeBrusk now in Mark’s bottom three. Mark and Bill each gain a waiver pick. Bill on the way to all-Calgary roster.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 5

Bill, would you trade any of your top five picks for Petterson? That’s about where he fits now.

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 5

I wouldn’t be surprised if he beats at least one of them in points but I hesitate to guess which one(s). I think I will pass but thanks for the offer

Vegreville Vegans Nov 5

I am willing to trade anyone on my team. If you have an interest I am open to discussing.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 7

Paul, how about Steen for R Smith? You gain two points and pick up a waiver pick! Best deal ever!!

Vegreville Vegans 15 days ago

Agreed. Write it up on the napkin. I’m probably getting fleeced in the long-term but willing to take the chance.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 7

I’m gambling that Vegas is better than they’ve looked so far. Deal done.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 7

Vegans (Paul) trade Reilly Smith (round 6, 6 points) to Walking Birds (Bob) for Alexander Steen (round 17, 8 points). Smith is in the bottom three of Walking birds now.

Camrose Solar Bears12 Nov 10

Bob – the Smoke Eaters trade Hornqvist to THE BEARS for Shattenkirk – both are in the basement of each team.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 7

Bill, want to dump Ehlers? Offers?

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 10

How about for Giordano? Good deal for you because you might go down in the standings now and get a better waiver pick yet win the trade overall by the end of the year! Win, win!!!

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 13

Don’t want to trade Giordano. How about one of my other Calgary guys? Oh right I don’t have any. Letang and Kovalchuk for Ehlers and Dadonov? Maybe? I have to cogitate on that.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 13

Trade confirmed. Mark’s Solar Bears trade Shattenkirk (round 19, 5 points) to Jeff’s Smoke Eaters for Hornqvist (round 9, 7 points). Hornqvist was in Jeff’s bottom three; now Shattenkirk is. Hornqvist counts for Mark. Looks like a win for Mark, especially if Hornqvist starts playing with Crosby again and Kevin keeps shattenkirking the bed.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 16

Mark- Just to confirm that I got your list, and didn’t peek at it.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 16

Where you going?

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 17

I need a waiver drop since all my guys are so good. Someone trade me a bum and a good player for two pretty good ones.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 17

Greg – package William Karlson.

Koln Komets Nov 19

Anyone up for a trade for forward Derek Ryan?

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 19

Ryan and Rakell for ristolainen and Drew Doughty? Ristolaineen counts for you and ryan didn’t.

Koln Komets Nov 19

Sounds solid to me. Make it so broheim

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 21

OK will do. I might have given up Ristolainen too soon. Luckily I have a massive lead in the pool.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 21

Breaking News: Trade: Walking Birds (Bob) trade Drew Doughty (round 13, 11 points) and Rasmus Ristolainen (round 21, 11 points) to the Koln Komets (Kyle) for Rickard Rakell (round 5, 13 points) and Derek Ryan (round 21, 5 points). Ryan is now in the Walking Birds’ bottom three. Ristolainen counts. Standings: both teams go up, Walking Birds from 301 to 302, and Komets from 267 to 270 points. Neat how that works! A true win-win!

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 21

Bill, Giordano will win the Norris trophy. Make me a proper offer.

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 21

Nah, not interested. I would like Keller though. Interested in trading him?

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 21

Bill, what will give me for Ryan? Good Calgary boy! James Neal?

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 21

The comment in the Giordano thread should go here

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 21

Bill, are you planning to drop McAvoy?

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 21

No, just Donato. I think I will only use one pick this round. You can have him for free if you want

Vegreville Vegans Nov 21

Hey Bob, drop Kase and Schultz (Pittsburgh) and pick from next available on list. I am tired of all this injury BS keeping me at the bottom.

Vegreville Vegans Nov 21

Or Orlov or Galchenyuk

Vegreville Vegans Nov 21

Anyone have an interest in Jumbo Joe?

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 21

Sure. How about Mittlestadt? You would definitely win the trade but I fear JT isn’t long for the NHL

Vegreville Vegans Nov 21

I am all for it. Write it up and send it commissioner Bob. Mittlesradt for Jumbo Joe.

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 21

I second that emotion

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

Trade: Bill’s Uzbeks trade Casey Mittlestadt (round 16, 7 points) to Paul’s Vegans for Jumbo Joe Thornton (round 16, 6 points). Both teams now have earned all their waiver picks for the year.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

There are now four ties in the standings. I’ll let you know right now that in order to determine the waiver draft order, I will break ties using P/G, going to more decimal places than the site does.

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

We should do it by height. The shorter you are, the earlier you pick. In case of a tie still, then the higher your BMI the higher you pick. Just a thought…

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

You might have some competition on the BMI. Sorry, I just assumed you were talking about yourself. I shouldn’t have been so presumptuous. You short fat pig.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

Paul, I will drop Kase and Schultz as you said originally. You are stuck with Orlov and Galchenyuk for all time.

Istanbul Walking Birds  Nov 22

Kase is a good little hockey player and is back. You might want to see if anyone wants him in a trade first.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

Bill, let’s talk Keller. I flatly refuse to trade Giordano, no matter how much you beg.

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

Why don’t you package up the two and make me an offer I can’t refuse? Or are we both too lazy to actually figure out a trade?

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

I’m working on it. Didn’t do the calculations with Giordano in it. Had a different idea. OK. Not written in stone or even on a napkin, just throwing it out there, you chew on it and spit it back with spin on it – Keller and Krejci for Ehlers and Dadonov. Counteroffer? Or you likee?

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

Sure, I trust you to look after me and not try to rip me off. For my waiver pick drop Donato and pick Ferland or Kotkaniemi (Mtl). I’m sure one of them should be there still

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

Just in case that wasn’t clear, I am saying ok to the trade if you want

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

And Ferland first choice

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

If neither there then next on the list

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

You realize that Ferland no longer plays for Calgary, right?

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

Nice try Bob, but you can’t fool me that easy!!

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

Just wait on this trade, Greg wants to give me William Karlson; I might have to include one of those guys.

Istanbul Walking Birds Nov 22

Greg, Vegas Karlson for Letang. If you’d rather have Krecji I could do that but it will screw up my trade with Bill.

Minsk Uzbeks Nov 22

I really don’t care about Krecji, Keller is who I want.

McDavid ,but you don’t have him . Too early in the year to trade Johnny Hockey ………..Patrick

Minsk Uzbeks8 hours ago

Pat, you aren’t going to get McDavid for Gaudreau. You would be looking more in the Eberle caliber player at this point with the injury. He has been out about 2 weeks (in which Calgary has played 9 games) of an original diagnosis of 4-6 weeks. Now I risk the wrath of Gayton for offering you such a sweet deal, but I will let you take any non-Flame off my roster for Gaudreau.

Reply

Istanbul Walking Birdsseconds ago

Karlsson, Pavelski, or Burns would be almost locks to win that for you, Pat, even with a best-case season for Gaudreau. Bill is gambling.

Istanbul Walking Birds3 months ago

Does Bill have inside Flames information? I was very surprised to see Gaudreau back so soon.

Reply

Minsk Uzbeks3 months ago

No, I didn’t know either. I thought he had at least two more weeks but probably four more to go. I was thinking more about keeping my points down to get a better waiver pick (even though I made a mistake by taking two first round). Also, I thought Flames are undervalued now due to their poor start. That, and what Phil said. Greg is way out to lunch, but I think we all knew that already.

Istanbul Walking Birds2 months ago

OK, trade done. Markov (21 pts, 0.68 ppg) goes from Walking Birds to Mooseheads for Forsberg (17 pts, 0.57 ppg). Markov doing realyy well on the pwer play with Weber; he might keep it up. I am gambling that Forsberg will snap out of it but after 30 gp, it’s a risk.

I am trying to drive up the price for Trocheck by increasing the demand for him. Just don’t tell Bob. And I am looking for Arizona players. Don’t ask why, I just got the thought in my head that I should have more Arizona players and I am acting on it. Which Murakami book?

1Q84. It came in yesterday. Bill, I am only a couple of chapters in but I can already tell that I owe you great debt of gratitude for pestering me to read this guy. Some of the greatest prose I have ever read, really! The incredible descriptions of the characters and places would make Dickens proud. The story line is amazing and I am looking forward to seeing where Murakami takes it. But you will need to sweeten the offer though if you still want Ek-La.

Walla Walla Walking Birds27 minutes ago

Hands off Trochek, Methot. So I don’t have time to read actual books but I picked up The Strange Library by Murakami from the strange library here a couple of weeks ago. It is sort of a graphic novel with only about 120 pages, more than half of which are illustrations, and the prose is in size 36 font, with only about 150 words per page. I haven’t started it yet.

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki. That is his latest book. I liked it. Others I liked are Kafka on the Shore, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and the one Methot is reading, 1Q84 (possibly my favourite because it was my first one). I like the later ones more than the earlier ones. If you don’t like the one you are currently reading then you probably won’t like the rest. Lots of people don’t like his style.

Walla Walla Walking Birds 3 months ago

Rap music is the combination of rhyming and poetry to a beat. It is part of the Hip-Hop genre, which involves lyrics over fast-paced music. Some people have described Hip-Hop as a way of life and a subculture, while rap is a specific genre of music. The Grammys for the Hip-Hop category include R&B and Rap subcategories. I found that online and it seems to be about right.

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks a month ago

Trust everyone realizes my last comment was meant sarcasticly. What’s going on south of the 49th is pretty disturbing, especially if you believe in responsible and impartial governance. There’s a barely-hidden racial subtext to many things Trump wants to do, and he has a frightening amount of support for it. Worried I am.

Reply
Minsk Uzbeks a month ago

There you go again, pushing your beliefs in responsible and impartial governance on us again. I don’t believe in that crap. Frankly, everyone on the Republican side (especially Cruz) scares me, and the Democrats aren’t much better. I was rooting for Sanders, but it looks like that isn’t going to happen. If Trump wins the nomination it will probably destroy the Republican party, unless he also wins the presidency, in which case it will just destroy the country. But then again, maybe it just doesn’t matter who runs the country and things will just carry on as before. The only thing that I am sure of is that this election will be talked about and studied for a very long time.

Walla Walla Walking Birds a month ago

Not that worried yet. Although I thought the party would put a stop to Trump before now. They just have no acceptable candidates. Now it looks like Trump will win the nomination. But his problem, same as for Cruz, is that they have almost no chance of winning a general election. The demographics favour the Democrats so heavily now that if a Republican just appeals to the (far-right) base, they can’t hope to get enough votes from moderates to win. The base is only about 30-35% of the population. Democrats have a larger base and will take all the moderate vote and all minorities if Trump nominated. Hard to see how he could get out his base without alienating about 65% of all voters. If he softens after he secures the nomination, his base will turn on him. That is why the Republican Party wants to stop him – he can’t win. But I didn’t think he’d get this far either, so who knows?

Walla Walla Walking Birds a month ago

And why is my team dropping down the standings like some sort of Montreal Canadiens clone? I was in fourth place and poised for the big comeback win like every year. As usual, injuries are the main reason Jeff will win; rather the lack of. Sort the standings by games missed – Jeff’s roster has missed a shocking 13 games all season! Pat has missed 100 more. I have the same points per game as Jeff but have missed 71 games.

Reply

Walla Walla Walking Birds a month ago

Actually, Jeff isn’t in the clear. Both Bill and Ro have higher points per game. If you multiply ppg by games remaining and add to today’s totals, you get Jeff 1004, Ro 1004, and Bill 999. So even a minor injury might determine the winner now.

Reply

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks a month ago

At first I really liked Sanders. He’s a smart guy, believes what he says. But then I realized that he didn’t have a plan to get his ideas (free college tuition, saving the middle class) implemented. He had no clue how he would get this stuff through the Congress and the Senate. So I’m happily cheering for Hilary, who does really well in debates and will kick ass against anybody the Republicans send. I like the old girl, even if her husband is s bit of sleaze.

Reply
Walla Walla Walking Birds a month ago

I think Hillary will win. Been saying so for about three years. And by the way, why shouldn’t about half of all presidents be female from here on out? The Democrats have a big demographic advantage but they have to focus on winning the House and Senate. Tough to get anything done as it is. And if the Republicans ever win the White House, they have Congress and can do all sorts of crazy things (see GWB years).

Minsk Uzbeks a month ago

I really don’t see anyone getting their ideas implemented if the republicans keep control of Congress and the Senate. They won’t pass anything from Clinton, Sanders or Drumpf. Possibly Cruz or Rubio get things passed, but can you see either one winning both the nomination and the presidency? I can’t. Their system is broke. As an aside, I am looking forward to the day that the Drumpf supporters finally realize that the Emperor has no hair.

Reply
Minsk Uzbeks a month ago

Yes, it is better here. There are only two options down there and the country has pretty much divided into two “teams”, and everything is strictly partisan. We have been moving that way the last decade or so but we aren’t nearly as bad as them. Our governments can also govern for the most part, even in minority governments. Down there they just get gridlock and the government comes to a standstill. Plus, we don’t have the NRA to intimidate every politician.

Minsk Uzbeks 27 days ago

Hoboken Screaming Aardvarks26 days ago

So the key to winning the Hockey Pool is getting all the Calgary Flames you can get…hmm…weird or what??

Reply
Minsk Uzbeks 26 days ago

If it were only that easy! You also have to take Phil Kessel with your first overall pick, use a draft list that overvalues defensemen, start trying to trade for Arizona Coyotes and basically agree to any trade that doesn’t take away Coyotes or Flames from your roster. Now excuse me, I have to go buy some lottery tickets. Seriously though, you guys have to pick up the pace. If I were to bring that trophy home and put it on my mantel for a year my marriage would suffer some significant damage. Plus I would probably lose it.

Trash Talk 2011-2012 (Return of the Jets Hockey Pool)

___________________________________________________________

Dutch Ovens  Oct. 12. Whats up!
Any one want to trade? What do you give for Sid the kid?

Moose  Oct. 17.  Good morning all. Enjoyed my visit greatly, I must say. Thanks to Mark and the always lovely Elizabeth for letting the likes of us into their home. Too bad about Bill becoming some kind of responsible citizen, I would have thought it much too late for that. Jeff and Paul will also have to make more of an effort to come and drink beer, golf and push Gayton’s head. Start planning for next year’s pool here in Winnipeg (remember, this was Bill’s idea and I’m good with that and Marilyn seems to have forgotten much of what occurred last time you were all here, so don’t disappoint) How is it possible that Pat has already missed 20 games due to injury. Sorry Phil I don’t think you will get anyone willing to gamble much on Crosby even though he could play 60 games and still compete for the scoring title. See if Bill is interested, maybe he can spare a defenceman or two. Adios.

Dutch Ovens  Oct. 28. Hey you bums keep the noise down! Just saying…

Walking Birds  Nov. 14. Just a test of the Trash Talk daily email – you bums!

Dutch Ovens  Nov 21. How are you? what’s up?

Moose  Dec. 10. I may be just ill-tempered and bitter, but is there not something deeply disturbing about the current pool standings.

Albinos  Dec. 23.  Lads , have a great Christmas and best wishes to you and your families in the New Year .Looking forward to seeing you all in 2012 . I’m off to Old Pueblo for some R&R . Later ………Pat

Dutch Ovens  to Moose Jan. 18.  Pray tell what is so disturbing. Please elaborate.

Aardvarks  Jan. 19. You are just ill-tempered and bitter. Actually, the hockey is hard to follow this year because of the carnage due to injuries. It’s like a game of last man standing…

Walking Birds  Jan. 19. The standings are actually very close this year. Anyone from the first 7 spots is still in it. Bill and Greg are not in it. When are we doing the second waiver draft? We said about February.

Moose  Jan 28. When I posted the “disturbing” comment Paul and Jeff were sitting one/two, both of them were sadly missing from the draft and we just grabbed the next slob from the list, regardless of injury status etc. Clearly my only hope of ever winning is to not show up (even if it takes place in Winnipeg) and get a hopefully drunken Lefebvre to do the picking. At this the all-star break a few observations; how about the amazing rise of the Bino’s after possibly the worst run of injuries in league history while perennial losers Birds, Bears, Aardvarks and Uzbeks continue to embarrass, perhaps relocation should be considered. When is the next waiver?

Aardvarks Jan 29.  Re: Waiver – Bobby Bettman says February, we just have to get him to narrow down his parameters a bit…there are still some tight races going on, so this waiver does matter.

Walking Birds Feb. 3.  The trade deadline is Feb. 27 so we shouldn’t do the waiver too late. I suggest Sunday Feb 19, and maybe I’ll get it done before the 27th. I can send out a email beforehand.

Hey, Phil, are you there? What do you want for the overacheiving Patrick Marleau?
Walking Birds says to Bill [Thu Nov. 1 4:18pm]
Hey Bill, Greg still hasn’t enabled his trash talk. I assume he is between computers, so he can’t see the awful things we are saying about him behind his back. What an idiot, eh? What do you want for Henrik Sedin, and which one is he? I have overachieving Flames you should snap up.
Uzbeks says to Bob [Fri 10:49am]
Hank is the good Sedin who goes to church every Sunday and listens to his mother. Daniel is the bad Sedin who mooches off his friends and doesn’t pick up after himself.
How about Hank and Ribeiro for Getzlaf and Connolly?
Aardvarks says to Bob [Fri 6:47am]
The hockey gods hate cockiness so don’t be getting your name engraved just yet. Yes, Iginla could be had, just don’t tell Bill.
Milt Stegalls says to Bob [Fri 6:47am]
Hello Bob. Yes you may have Marleau, yesterday I was going to suggest for Bieksa, good thing I waited. What I would suggest is Marleau for Chara and your pick in the next waiver. This is the worst team I’ve drafted in years, I must make sure to be there in person next year to witness the massive cheating that surely goes on for myself. I scored my first goal of the season last week and am on pace for a typical 5 goal year. My +- however, is a team leading -12 which I’m quite proud of.
Coach Comment by Jeff to Phil M [Sun Nov 4 10:38pm]
-12, phil, probably dogging it after the basket ‘Coolidge’ (remember that great show? I got it on DVD for my birthday last year). doo-wop in the back of the bus after the post-game
fight/police escort, etc.

Solar Bears says to Bob [Sun Nov 4 11:42am]
Bob – I see a flag on the field – Marleau for Chara – your crazy if you think I canl let that happen without the approval of all owners.
Hey Jeff, what you asking for Marleau???
By the way, when did we say the next one player draft would be?

Coach Comment by Bob [Sun Nov 4 3:20pm]
Mark: Pay attention – There is a waiver pick in that deal also. And Methot has Marleau, not Jeff. But feel free to make a counter-offer.
Phil: I am still interested in Marleau but I can’t give up a waiver pick. Now that Bieksa is out I may have to dump him. I really want to make a trade. Greg is right, I shouldn’t be so cocky resting on my Laurals – that reminds me, how’s your sister?
Congratulations on your goal. What with one thing and another, I haven’t played yet this year. This could be worse than last year, when I barely cracked the 70 goal plateau. But so far my +/- is an even zero, so I’m not hurting the team.
Bill – I don’t want Ribiero – isn’t he a soccer player? – although I watched Sedin last night and he had six points! He even assisted on some of his own goals! So I am still interested.

Walking Birds says to Phil M. [Sun Nov 4 3:40pm]
Why don’t you package the underperforming Marleau and the underperforming Staal for two of my medium-performing guys? No waiver picks, I got three major injuries already.
Walking Birds says to Mark [Sun Nov 4 3:48pm]
Frolov and Zubov for Connolly and Dumont? I know you’re in love with Zubov but he’s a bum.

Walking Birds says to Greg [Sun Nov 4 3:16pm]
Mark wants to verify the waiver format. My recollection of your proposal is 2 drafts, one the last Sunday in November, one the first Sunday in February. Three picks TOTAL; you have the option of picking twice in the first draft and one in the SECOND ROUND of the second draft, or once in the first draft (passing in the second round)and two picks in the second draft. Does that sound right?

Aardvarks says to Bob [Tue Nov 6 7:34am]
Re waiver draft – yes, that’s how i remember it. I distinctly recall having my eighth beer and then a talking wombat outlined the procedure for us.

Message from your Pool Administrator Tue Nov. 6
WAIVER DRAFT: There will be 2 drafts, one the last Sunday in November (November 25, or Urkranian Christmas), one the first Sunday in February (date to be specified later, after I buy a 2008 calendar). Three picks TOTAL; you have the option of picking twice in the first draft and one in the SECOND ROUND of the second draft, or once in the first draft (passing in the second round) and two picks in the second draft. Questions/Comments should be directed to the talking wombat.

Walking Birds says to Pat [Fri Nov 16 7:52pm]
Who do you like in the CFL? Riders have been unimpressive the last two weeks. I’d like to see them beat BC but I don’t think they will.
Coach Comment by Pat [Sat Nov 17 6:03pm]
I haven’t been following the CFL much since the Eskimos gassed , but it would be hard to bet against the Lions . Buono and staff have built a good organization out West . Have you noticed my steady climb in the standings ? A few days ago I was 100 points out of first place and today I am only 98 points away . Later ……Pat

Walking Birds says to Paul [Fri Nov 16 8:01pm]
Do you realize you have FIVE Sabres? No sane man would draft 5 players from one team. What do want for Vanek and Afnogenov?

Vegans says [Sat Nov 17 11:20am]
Didn’t realize I had five sabres. Ouch and they are in last place with the Oilers. What do you offer?
By the way, Eskimos are doomed for another year since they fired the only guys that know anything about football and kept Maccocia and Campbell, who by the way has to be the worst defensive co-ordinator around. Looks like Rick Worman will be offensve co-ordinator so Maccoccia will be callin the plays. As a lifelong Lions fan I revel in the thought of another year of ineptitude for Edmonton. By the way Lions by 8 in the Western final.
Coach Comment by Pat [Sat Nov 17 6:03pm]
UPDATE: Yes , doomed for another year while Maciocia is still around . I hear they are looking at Tim Prinsen and Gizmo as coaching additions next year . Later ….Pat
Walking Birds says [Wed Nov 21 9:18pm]
How about the faltering Sabres duo of Afinonogenov and Vanek for Satan and Chris Kunitz? Points in the bank!
Vegans says [Thu Nov 22 6:45pm]
Its a deal.
Walking Birds says [Thu Nov 22 7:14pm]
Update: Ok, I’ll do the deal.

Walking Birds says to Mark [Fri Nov 16 11:39pm]
Just checked the game updates, and it looks like you have taken the lead. Time to start trading! Are you interested in Sundin? I have a hankerin’ for some Frolov.
Solar Bears says [Mon Nov 19 7:11pm]
Don’t know about Frolov but I wouldn’t mind letting a leaf or two go. I’ll take almost anything. What you asking for Lang?
How about those Pigs? Could be in third place soon – Oh look they are!
Walking Birds says [Mon Nov 19 10:37pm]
So you want LESS Leafs, Not MORE Leafs! And you like your Kings. So maybe we do a leaf for Derek Armstrong?
Solar Bears says [Tue Nov 20 8:35pm]
So how about the Leaf of you choice and _____ for Armstrong and Samuelsson????
Walking Birds says [Wed Nov 21 9:11pm]
OK, so Recchi and Stajan for Armstrong and Samuelson? Nothing but fear holding you back.
And maybe Lidstrom for Lang? You might have to sweeten it.

Walking Birds says to Phil M [Fri Nov 16 11:50pm]
How’s the hockey going? I finally played on Thursday and it went well, meaning that I was able to leave the ice under my own power. Of course after so long off, I couldn’t pass or shoot. (I had three goals, but all together on those the puck travelled a total of about 16 inches.) Are you still playing defense? I played defense in summer hockey (before I got hurt), and found it very difficult to defend against good players in non-contact hockey. They make you look foolish regularly. Or is that just me? Trades? CFL picks?

Milt Stegalls says [Mon Nov 19 6:45am]
Hockey is going well. On MM’s insistance I’ve started yoga classes which has really helped keep me healthy and has improved my balance though I still handle the puck in the offensive end as if it may explode at any second. Here is how I play defence in non-contact. I hit them anyway, especially if someone tries the old toe drag, I’ve levelled a couple of guys and they stop doing it. When you get beat trying to play the puck and it gets slid between your skates you look like a putz and that still makes me mad so I’d rather get yelled at for rough play than get beat. Great football action, the Toronto party should be signicantly rowdier as a result. I really should work on dealing some players, what’s the word on the waiver, could you please use English phrasing to describe it.
Walking Birds says [Mon Nov 19 10:46pm]
UPDATE: I’ve played against defensemen like you. Not that I do anything to deserve being hit – I’ve never done a trick move in my life. It’s just not sporting.
You didn’t give a prediction for the big game. Are you a Mad Bomber? Or do you have old allegiances from your Regina days? It would probably have been a great game if Glenn was in – it might still be, the kid didn’t look bad for Winnipeg.
If you’re still interested in Bieksa (expected back any day, it’s only a flesh wound) I’ll trade him for Staaaaal. At the rate Staal is scoring Bieksa could come back in March and beat him.

Coach Comment by Phil M [Tue Nov 20 6:56am]
You I’d definately put on ice, if you can’t injure your friends for getting cutesy…. No thanks I don’t need more injured guys, I’ll see how the waiver goes. This Dinwiddie dude looks like a pretty cool customer, the talk here is that if he doesn’t get too fancy and the D play like they have they still have a good shot. Apparently Dinwiddie has pretty good u.s college credentials and is quite the competitor and since we’ve now been in Manitoba much longer than in Sk. it’s go Bombers, send those banjo pickers packing.
Albinos says to Phil M [Thu Nov 22 7:41pm]
Hey Bomber boy , interesting to hear you’re doing Yoga . I’ve been doing it for several years now and it’s turned me into a big rubber band . I do it mostly for my golf swing , although beer works good also . Later …..Pat

Walking Birds says to Jeff [Fri Nov 16 11:44pm]
The Blind Bay Of Pigs is the hottest team in the league, but you have one glaring weakness in your top ten: Patrick Elias. Better trade him to me for JP Dumont.
Coach Comment by Jeff [Sun Nov 18 6:29pm]
No, I don’t like small frenchmen after seeing Cournoyer and
Richard kill the Leafs year after year. Just goes to show you,
buying a book and having no system does work!!
How ’bout those Roughriders? Austin gives Wally a coaching
lesson!

Walking Birds says [Sun Nov 18 7:25pm]
Update: Dumont is a small Frenchman? No wonder I can’t trade him. I thought he was a big Russian.
Riders played a great game and won the turnover battle. With Glenn out, I say Riders by 11 (conservatively) for the Cup.

Waiver Draft this Sunday after the Grey Cup Game. Send a list or call me.
You can drop two guys, or just one if you want to drop two in February.List enough picks so you don’t run out! (9 picks for one round, 18 for 2).

Walking Birds says [Wed Nov 21 9:29pm]
Biily! You are quiet….TOO quiet. We haven’t made a trade in what seems like seconds. What do you say to Semin ‘Stain’ for ‘The Big Russian’ Dumont or Dion ‘Quintuplet’ Phaneuf?? This isn’t written on stone, but on pixel pattterns on a computer screen.
Coach Comment by Bill [Thu Nov 22 10:05am]
Sure thing Bub. Write it up. You pick-em. The reason that I am so quiet is because I am sulking since a certain someone who I will not name but lives in Whitecourt, drives a ‘cute’ vehicle (not my words) and has a pool team whose name starts with two vowels drank my last beer in the whole world and now I have no beer and the unnamed ‘person’ (again not my words) thinks that it is funny even though my tax money supports him and his ilk and even though he is safe until the next municipal election it’s not funny.
Walking Birds says [Thu Nov 22 7:18pm]
Update : OK, I’m keeping Phaneuf for sentimental reasons so it’s Semin for Dumont. Sorry to hear about your beer-related tragedy. Let me guess: it was Mayor Thain, wasn’t it? That plutonium-sucking bastard!!

Message from your Pool Administrator Nov 22/07
TRADES: Walking Birds send Satan and Kunitz to Vegans for Afinogenov and Vanek. Walking Birds send Dumont to Uzbeks for Semin.

Walking Birds says  to Phil M [Wed Nov 21 9:24pm]
OK, Marleau and Naslund for Sundin and Armstrong. Hurry, I might come to my senses or trade Armstrong to Mark.

Aardvarks says to Phil M [Thu Nov 22 7:40am]
Hiya Milt – I was wondering if you wanted some healthy players for your dead ones. Howzabout Weight and Hartnell for any two corpses of your choice (e.g. Pitkanen and Bergeron), and all we have to do is trade places in the first round of the waiver. Will be making the same offer to Pat so act fast.

Walking Birds says to Phil M [Thu Nov 22 7:41pm]
LATER: I don’t see a points prediction for the game! Let’s face it, if the Riders play like they did last week it might be three touchdowns. I’m saying Riders by 11.
What about the trade offer? What about Greg’s trade offer? Do you think me and Greg got nothin better to do than make trade offers and precise football predictions while you just sit and do nothing?

Aardvarks says to Pat [Thu Nov 22 7:47am]
Hey Pat – will trade you healthy players for dead ones. Give me Boyle and Cajanek for Weight and Hartnell, and all we have to do is swap position at the first round of the waiver. Sweet, eh?
Act fast, Methot is very interested in a similar offer. You can never have too much depth in your lineup.

Coach Comment by Pat [Thu Nov 22 7:33pm]
No , I’ll dump my dead meat in the waiver so I don’t want anybody elses . How about Kozlov for Gomez straight up ! Nice to see the Riders in the cup , but too bad nobody in TO gives a chit . Later …….Pat
Walking Birds says [Thu Nov 22 7:38pm]
Isn’t it cool ghow you guys can watch me wheel and deal in real time, while Greg can’t swing a deal to save his life? Although I may be giving up too much. PAT — Interested in dealing Jagr? Maybe for anyone except Zetterberg?
Albinos says to Mark [Thu Nov 22 7:51pm]
Hey Markster, I know you hate Oilers so to help you out I’ll take Hemsky off your hands for Kozlov . Later ……Pat

I’m looking to make a trade for my waiver pick – any takers??
Uzbeks says [Sun Nov 25 2:00pm]

Hey Bob
I will drop Steen and pick in order:
P.Sharp , E.Belanger, R.Zednik, C.Kobasew, R.Umberger
I only want one round this time and so that should take care of my placement in the draft.
Any last minute trades?

Walking Birds says to Paul [Mon Nov 26 7:39pm]
Paul, are you there? I need a list or at least a go-ahead-withouten-me!

Milt Stegalls says to Bob [Mon Nov 26 6:45am]
I should have payed more attention to some of the offers, I think I should have jumped all over Greggie (metaphorically speaking) Anyway sent in my list this morning as I was busy repairing extensive structural damage to my house and looking for a new tv yesterday evening.
Aardvarks says to Bob [Mon Nov 26 7:37am]
Could you hold off doing the draft until Methot and | do the deal earlier proposed?
Coach Comment by Bob [Mon Nov 26 7:38pm]
Yes, go ahead with your little trade. Although Methot got his list to me in record time (one day late), I am still waiting for Paul, and since he just passed me to move into second place I better give him some slack. MY feeling is that if he chooses not to participate in this draft, he can do two picks in February, but not 3 picks! By the way, we have to start paying more attention to the outside world when we plan these things. Whose idea was it to have the waiver on Grey Cup Sunday? I am hung over and Methot destroyed his house in a temper tantrum. We’re as bad as the NHL for scheduling conflicts.
Milt Stegalls says [Tue Nov 27 6:44am]
Hi Greg, little problem, your earlier offer has since left cyberspace and believe it or not I forgot what it was. Can you please send it again. It seems this Bub guy is indeed not at all stuck up and will let us do as we please, damn the rules, so let me see it again and I will consult with my staff. Apparently it was zero degrees Kelvin in Regina yesterday yet thousands of hillbilly like people braved the elements to welcome their team home. Actually if any of you get a chance to take in a game in Regina it is a hoot. Too bad for the Oilers, I think Kevin went to the Sather school of running a team that relies heavily on the premise that you are as smart as you think you are.
Walking Birds says [Tue Nov 27 8:29pm]
Nothing is ever lost in cyberspace, as long as you have an anal friend who has copies of everything. Greg’s obviously out with Pigs in Space or possibly Girls Gone Wild, so I will repeat his offer: Weight and Hartnell for any two dead players, plus you switch positions in the first round of the waiver.
Hurry up; I have all the lists in and was going to do the waiver tonight. I could wait until tomorrow, but if there are injuries in the meantime it complicates things. But there is no need to be TOO rule-bound; after all, we screwed up the draft order and no one seems to care (I won’t tell who should REALLY have got the Crosby pick.)
Aardvarks says [Tue Nov 27 8:28pm]
The trade was Weight and Jaroslav Hlinka for two dead guys of your choice, plus we swap position in the waiver draft. You draft second, I draft third, at present.
Walking Birds says [Wed Nov 28 4:40am]
HO HO! Greg is trying to change the trade on you. Here is the quote of his original offer: ‘Hiya Milt – I was wondering if you wanted some healthy players for your dead ones. Howzabout Weight and Hartnell for any two corpses of your choice (e.g. Pitkanen and Bergeron), and all we have to do is trade places in the first round of the waiver.’ Now he’s trying to stick you with Hlinka (didn’t he retire in 1982?). I’d hold out for Hartnell if I were you. In any case, you have to do it today because I’m doing the draft tonight, say at about 8 pm (Alberta time, Phil).
Coach Comment by Phil M [Wed Nov 28 6:59am]
I’ll do the original trade Good Greg proposed and not the bogus one Evil Greg tried. I’ll give up Bergeron and Pitkanen for Hartnell (I know he just got suspended) and Weight and switch picks in the waiver. I don’t hold a grudge against Evil Greg, we all would have tried it don’t you know.

Aardvarks says [Wed Nov 28 7:27am]
When you get old, your memory it’s like a sieve. OK, I’ve signed the napkin, and I’m including Hartnell and Weight in the christmas gift package to Methot, for Pitkanen and Bergeron. Bob, then I’m dropping Bergeron and Hlinka in the waiver, but keeping Pitkanen for some unfathomable reason. Done, go ahead and do Mr Waiver.
Aardvarks says  to Bob [Wed Nov 28 7:29am]
Napkin signed this morning, see comments to Methot.

Message from your Pool Administrator Nov 29
TRADE: Aardvarks trade Scott ‘Scottie’ Hartnell and Doug ‘Dead’ Weight to Milt Stegalls for Pitkanen and Bergeron, plus a switch of first-round waiver picks. So Greg will pick second and Phil third.

Uzbeks says to Pat [Thu Dec 6 9:49am]
Hey Pat, now that the Oilers are picking up the pace are you interested in Cogliano? He’s about to break out in a big way….any time now…
Coach Comment by Pat [Thu Dec 6 7:18pm]
Sure , I’ll take Cogs ( and any other players with pulses ) . Package some players and we’ll do a swap .If you’re nice , I’ll even let you have the Brothers Pool trophy for a while until you want to give it to Bobby .Later …..Pat
Uzbeks says [Fri Dec 7 10:15am]
UPDATE: How about A. Brunette and D. Boyle for Cogliano and your choice of either Joe Pavelski or Jay Bouwmeester. You improve in points and get an Oiler and a ‘J’ player, which have proven to be quite popular in the past.
Coach Comment by Pat [Sun Dec 9 9:44am]
UPDATE :Let me see how Boyle does when he gets back from IR and I’ll get back to you ….Pat
Uzbeks says [Tue Dec 11 10:47am]
It doesn’t have to be Boyle. It can be any of you bottom players. I just thought that he would be the one you would like to get rid of the most. By the way, I can’t remember my offer. It was Cogliano and someone for Brunette and some dead guy. I just can’t remember who the someone was (Pavelski? Bouwmeester?)
Walking Birds says [Tue Dec 11 8:44pm]
The offer was’A. Brunette and D. Boyle for Cogliano and your choice of either Joe Pavelski or Jay Bouwmeester.’
Coach Comment by Pat [Fri Dec 14 7:06pm]
Okay Bill it’s a deal , Cogs and Pavelski for Brunette and Boyle . Please process the transaction documentation Mr Administrator. I’ll entertain offers for any other Copper and Blue as well . Later ……Pat

I second that emotion, put the trade through.

Message from your Pool Administrator Sat Dec 15
Another Trade: Uzbeks trade Andrew ‘Redhead’ Brunette and Dan Boyle ‘Boy’ to Albinos for ‘First Name Unknown’ Pavelski and Andrew ‘Cogs’ Cogs. Albinos up 6 points but will live to regret this one.

Uzbeks says to Greg [Fri Dec 7 10:21am]
Limited time offer! Spezza for Iginla! Lose now but win in the end! Not only that, but I am also offering to assume your unfunded beer liability! I am serious! You can tell that because I am using exclamation marks!
Aardvarks says [Sun Dec 9 9:23am]
Will consider the intriguing Spezza/Iginla offer next week. If Thain is drinking all your beer, that’s not my issue.
Coach Comment by Bill [Mon Dec 10 9:50am]
I know Trevor Thain. And you sir are no Trevor Thain.
(note: If you haven’t caught the message, I am trying to imply that Thain did not drink my beer but in fact it was YOU! And I don’t really know Trevor Thain. I just wanted to clear that up. However, my son beat his grandson at the TKD tournament and made him cry (the grandson, not Thain) and I did buy a piece of furniture from his store and he helped me load it, but I don’t golf with him all buddy-buddy like or anything like that.)
Walking Birds says [Mon Dec. 10 7:12pm]
So I take it Thain was re-elected? Unlike the hapless Lorne Mann.
Walking Birds says [Tue Dec 11 8:46pm]
Update: Did I say hapless? I mean hatless. I repeat hatless.

Walking Birds says to Jeff [Sat Dec 812:00pm]
Give up on Elias yet? Pretty funny to see both Torres and Stoll were healthy scratches last night. Why don’t you dump them off on Pat?

Walking Birds says to Phil M [Sat Dec 8 11:57am]
Give up on Marleau yet? How about Demetra? What kind of stick do you use? Did you ever try a composite? Now that they are closing the Sher-Wood wooden stick factory I won’t be able to get my beloved PMP 5030 Paul Coffey 85 flex lie 5.5 sticks any more, so I went and bought a composite yesterday. I object to spending $75 on a stick, but the PMPs are $40 now, so it might be worth it. Will I suddenly have a real shot? Will I be able to pass? I’m a little anxious about it. P.S. I resisted the temptation to sleep with the stick last night even though it is beautiful (a RBK 4K Accuflex 35 k mid-flex 75 Datsyuk – not sure what that all means).
Coach Comment by Phil M [Mon Dec 10 6:49am]
Every second pick seems like a dud, if you think Marleau still has some points in him make an offer. As for sporting equipment you must aquaint yourself intimately with each piece as they join your family. Mel will understand but it is imperitave that you spend at least one night of carnal bliss with your new stick for it to feel as though it truly belongs. I generally get the longest and heaviest piece of lumber I can find for poke checking and general hacking of my opponents, actual handling of the puck and any offensive effort is purely coincidental. I’ve never tried one of the expensive composites as that would be like giving Stevie Wonder a new Mercedes.
Walking Birds says [Tue Dec 11 9:24pm]
Played my first game with the composite today and it was an outstanding success, in that I didn’t break it. I like the stick but it will take some getting used to. My shot was out of control – I only had one goal, but I hit five (!) posts.
Coach Comment by Bob [Mon Dec 10 7:09pm]
OK, Phil, why don’t you throw Crosby in with Marleau (you weren’t supposed to get him anyway). I’m talking Sundin and Holmstrom.
Milt Stegalls says [Tue Dec 11 6:45am]
ok do it, Crosby and Marleau for Sundin and Holmstrom. Lorne Mann didn’t get re-elected? Did his past finally come back to haunt him as it will to all of you? Who the heck is drinking all of Bill’s beer. How old is that Liam guy, maybe it was him.
Aardvarks says [Tue Dec 11 7:42am]
You’re going to trade Sidney Crosby without even giving me a chance to offer Iginla for him? What’s with that??
Uzbeks says [Tue Dec 11 11:02am]
Who is the mayor in Peace River now? And to answer Phil’s question, the person (and I use the term lightly) who drank my last beer in the whole world is GREG GAYTON. (Although my brother came over last weekend and try as we might, we couldn’t drink all the beer that we bought so I now have beer again)
Aardvarks says [Tue Dec 11 7:45am]
Don’t throw Crosby away like an old Sonja. Put him up for bids. I’ll bid Iginla…
Uzbeks says [Tue Dec 11 10:51am]
Don’t trade Crosby to those guys. Remember all the pops and chips of yours that those guys ate? You should trade Bing to me. I’ll throw in 2 good guys for Crosby and some hack, and you will win the trade in the end for sure.
Coach Comment by Bob [Tue Dec 11 8:54pm]
Update: OK, it’s a deal. Iris Cailloux (spelling?) is the mayor. Too late with your counter-offers! You can’t just sit back a watch me wheel and deal and then try to get in on it once it’s done! Get in there and make some offers and get your nose dirty and stop drinking all of Mayor Thain’s beer!
Walking Birds says to Greg [Tue Dec 11 9:00pm]
I will now entertain offers for S. Crosby.
Message from your Pool Administrator Fri Dec 14
TRADE: Walking Birds trade Mats Sundin and Tomas Holmstrom to the Milt Stegalls (if that is their real name) for Sidney Crosby and Patrick Marleau. Milt Stegalls up 9 points.

Walking Birds says to Phil M [Sat Dec 15 11:10am]
Hey Phil – I am on holidays for the next two weeks so I have to undertake the timeless holiday tradition of reading a hockey book. Anything to reccommend? I finally got a copy of Tropic of Hockey but am refusing to read it just to spite you. I’ll let it age for a few years first. I have asked for Strength Down Centre – The Jean Beliveau Story by Hugh Hood on my Christmas list for the 20th consecutive year. If I don’t get it this time I might have to go out and buy it myself (you never see it in the stores and have to get it on eBay or ABE).
Milt Stegalls says [Mon Dec 17 6:48am]
Read ‘Tropic of Hockey’ damn you, best hockey book written in many years. I finally got a copy of ‘They Call Me Gump’ also great but hard to find. I read Espo’s book a while back, can’t recall the name, but it is pretty good, typical Espo, some real good stories of Bruin’s drunken escapades. Nice timing on the Holmstrom injury by the way.
Aardvarks says [Mon Dec 17 7:18am]
I think the Espo book is called ‘Thunder and Lightning’ or something like that, a lot of its about managing the Lightning during their bad years, but there is some good stories from the Bruins’ days also. I agree with Phil, I thought it was a pretty good read. I also liked ‘The Rebel League’, (author Ed Willes) about the WHA. Remember the Jersey Knights, and Mike ‘Shakey’ Walton? Lotsa good anecdotes..funny stuff.
Coach Comment by Bob [Mon Dec 17 9:28am]
I already read the Espo book. The Gumper book is another one I haven’t been able to find. I guess there’s nothing to read. ‘Back to Herman Hesse’.

Have you been keeping up on The Complete Peanuts? They’re up to 1965 now – classic stuff.

Give up on Michael ‘Healthy Scratch’ Ryder yet? Name your poison, as long as its name is Shea Weber.
Coach Comment by Ro to Bob [Mon Dec 17 8:26am]
Bob,
How about Semin for Ryder? I will be in Cowtown Dec 19,20
lets go for a beer?
Walking Birds says [Mon Dec. 17 10:01pm]
Update: Don’t want to trade Semin, actually having second thoughts about Ryder. Maybe for Derek Armstrong?? We can talk about when you’re here, maybe even do a napkin trade. Wednesday night?

Ro, Bob is a real lightweight, get him hosed and you could probably end up getting his house as well as any players you want. While in Calgary force him to read Tropic of Hockey, it will do him good.

ANOTHER TRADE: Drunken Flying Dutchmen trade Petr Sykora, Martin Erat, and Michael Ryder to the slightly less drunk Walking Birds for Alex Semin, Dion Phaneuf, and Ryan Clowe. Walking Birds up 18 points; if you take bottom three into account, Birds gained 7 points while Dutchmen dropped 15.

OK, trivia fans! Here is this year’s first big question: How many ‘Gordie Howe Hat-tricks’ did Gordie Howe rack up in his long career? WARNING: Like most questions, the answer to this one can be found on the internet in about 5 seconds. No Googling! Does anyone know it or have a guess without looking it up?
Milt Stegalls says [Tue Dec 18 6:53am]
The amazing answer to this question is that in Mr. Hockey’s many decades in pro hockey it happened once. It would be interesting to see the box score of that game. Do you know any details?
Walking Birds says [Tue Dec 18 12:38pm]
UPDATE: Milt is correct! I was stunned when I first heard that. My guess would have been 20 or 30 times. But I think Gordie was one of those players who only fought a few times early in his career, and then no one was foolish enough to challenge him after that, except for Lou Fontinato in 1963, who is not quite done with his reconstructive surgery yet. The details of the big night are that it was on Dec. 22, 1955 against Boston. I haven’t been able to find out who the fight was against.
Actually, this might not be right – I don’t know if anyone has actually looked through every game summary to check this. The term ‘Gordie Howe Hat-Trick’ was not coined until long after Howe retired. When Howe was asked how many he had, he guessed ‘quite a few’. But no one kept this stat before 1997. In the last ten years there have been lots:
Brendan Shanahan 9
Keith Tkachuk 5
Jarome Iginla 5
Brendan Morrow 5
Sean Avery 4
Joe Thornton 3
Shane Doan 3
Vincent Lecavalier 3
Bill Guerin 3

Don’t be so shocked, I’m right lots of times. Like the time I remembered where our hotel was in Paris or the time I won on Jeopardy by knowing the capital of Burkina Faso.
